ARTIST BIO
Jesper Johansen (b. Denmark) is a multidisciplinary artist working across painting, photography, and graphic direction. For over two decades, he has shaped visual identities in the Scandinavian design and lifestyle world — a foundation that informs his refined sense of composition, balance, and atmosphere. His work explores the quiet tension between presence and absence, using gesture, texture, and reduction to distill emotion into form. Rooted in Nordic minimalism and material sensitivity, Johansen’s practice merges artistic intuition with a trained visual discipline — creating a meeting point between contemporary art, design culture, and poetic abstraction.
ARTIST STATEMENT
I work in black, white, and everything that lives between them.
Silence, friction, restraint, and release. Surfaces that carry memory.
Marks that feel more like breathing than decisions. My paintings are built slowly — layered with gesture, texture, and moments where instinct overrides design. I move between control and surrender, between what is seen and what is sensed. Each piece begins in stillness, then becomes physical: pushed, scraped, erased, returned to quiet again. I paint to listen. To reduce. To stay present with what cannot be spoken — only felt. The work is not meant to answer, but to open space. A tension between darkness and light, movement and pause, clarity and mystery. A search for honesty in material, gesture, and silence.
